Review of Religulous (2008) by Nicci L — 21 Apr 2010
Ugh. I have no patience for propaganda regardless of which side of the issue I stand. I prefer informed, inquisitive, and conscientious work that challenges and teaches, not grandstands and preaches.
20 minutes in, I had to turn it off. I felt that the movie spoke to those who have a venomous hatred of religion and not to a wider audience of those who could stand to learn something about the subject, thereby making this movie a one-sided rant versus an examination of a subject. All that kept going through my head with this movie was, "What does it matter?" It was one man's vendetta against an institution that he doesn't even believe in--so why bother? If it doesn't affect you, why spend the amount of money and time Maher did on something that will essentially "preach to the choir"? After asking myself this 4 times, I realized it was time to turn the movie off and read some Dostoevsky instead.
