Review of Religulous (2008) by Michael T — 20 Mar 2012
This reconfirms all the reasons I hate Bill Maher. Condescending, talks over everyone, no respect. Of course he makes valid points about how religion has sown seeds of hatred, violence, misogyny, war, and homophobia the world over -- this is not news.
And yes, we all know that science/empirical knowledge and religion do not always see eye to eye. But he makes no effort to try to understand what makes people turn to religion anyway, or to pick apart the many ways that people relate to their religion or private faith.
Instead, his main mission seems to be to find unintelligent people (Sen. Pryor, much??) who take Scripture literally, and make fun of them. Way too simplistic. Not one to recommend.
