If you know me you know I am not religious at all, so this movie appealed to my desire to understand what others see/find in religion. I don't have a problem with others being religious (as long as they are not trying to shove it down my throat), but it's just something that is not for me.

I was rather surprised to to hear the Dr. Francis Collins, head of the Human Genome Project, was so religious. And not just the "I have faith" sort of religious. He seemed to be saying that the bible was an eye-witness account of actual events. I was a little shocked!

I really wanted to slap the dude who was going on about how no one is gay, people who think they are gay are just insecure. Are you kidding me?

Loved the point about Jonah and the whale... Well the bible says it was a big fish... How does the fact that it was a big fish, not a whale make it a more believable story?

"You don't have to pass an IQ test to be in the senate." That was a disturbing quote... Maybe you should? Because it seriously worries me that there are people running our country that truly believe the human race started in a garden with a man, a woman, and a talking snake.

Overall I enjoyed the movie. Of course it had an agenda, but that was clear from the start. You definitely have to view it as just one side of the story. It was still interesting, but even I (who is probably one of the least religious people ever) understand that there is more to the story than was presented. I liked that Maher interviewed quite a variety of people. Yet at the same time they all sound rather dumb when trying to explain things that are meant to be figurative as literal events and truths. I think there are more rational people out there than he made it seem. There was one Islamic woman that was doing a good job of explaining that you can't take all the passages of the Koran at face value, but they kind of brushed her off.

I think the main point was that faith with out common sense is dangerous, and humans need to have a bit more doubt and be more humble and rational. I agree with that sentiment, even if I didn't fully buy everything Maher was throwing out there.

Best part? When the stoner's head caught on fire...
