Review of Religulous (2008) by Anssi V — 08 Oct 2011
A thought-provoking movie about the sheer absurdity of religion. But underneath all of the smart observations, witty dialogue and finger-pointing, it's still a comedy. And it shows. The mood is kept rather light-hearted - with certain exceptions, especially towards the end - and the whole thing is laden with jokes of various levels of amusement.
I must admit that I found this movie a great deal of fun to watch. Bill Maher was a bit of a jerkass every now and then, but ultimately he was a funny guy, so you rooted for him. Some of his points were perhaps a little half-assed, but you could see the passion behind his words.
So yeah, as an agnostic I enjoyed this "documentary". Is it suitable for those of faith? Not so sure, but it brings up some good points, so I would at least give it a try. It's not the perfect argument against religion, but it at least tries.
