Review of Religulous (2008) by Mark — 02 Oct 2008
This is a wildly funny film that you'll enjoy regardless of your religious views. Tonight's sold-out suburban theater audience was laughing so hard they were gasping for breath several times.
Religulous doesn't make fun of religion, it doesn't need to when it's already having so much fun lampooning pompous, hypocritical (and occasionally demented) human piety. Those secure in their faith won't be offended in the slightest.
We already bear daily witness to the foibles of man's ego but rarely do we have the joy of seeing pious hypocrisy illuminated and then deflated with such razor sharp, yet good-natured wit. Maher is a wise man bearing a lovely gift for the enlightened faithful in this heartfelt and timely film.
