Review of Religulous (2008) by Palmer R — 13 Jun 2011
If you are religious, I would recommend not watching this, since by watching this film you are going to lose a lot of faith in the process.
Bill Maher, who is extremely offensive but also very funny, takes a road trip to various religious places and interviews various religious people to explain one point: "Religion is pointless.".
Now, I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything. Looking at it from an open perspective, it's hysterical how incredibly stupid many of these people that he interviews are. Just by reacting to his offensive comments, they end up humiliating themselves on camera.
He makes fun of a lot of religions: Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Scientology, etc. Every religion has some pretty crazy people in it, and Maher somehow finds the wackiest ones. Highlights include a theme park based on the Bible, which provides the funniest moment as a very corny portrayal of a crucifixation is literally ruined by a plane passing over right as the actor playing Jesus is raised up on a cheap wooden cross. The music cuts out, everyone falls silent, and it's an awkward moment worthy of "The Office." Maher aims most of the blow towards Christianity, so if you are a religious Christian don't watch this film. But if you are not religious, or just want a good laugh, please watch this film. No matter what you believe, you will be laughing your head off.
