Review of Reindeer Games (2000) by Jay L — 03 Jul 2011
"The trap is set. The game is on.".
A mind-bending and intensely deceptive heist caper from Director John Frankenheimer (Ronin, The General's Daughter). "It's 3000 Miles To Graceland" meets "Reservoir Dogs" and "Ocean's 11". A super cool, stylish, sexy-as-hell and slickly made shoot-em-up actioner that absorbs you from the first scene. Reindeer Games is a decently made and explosive mind-game full of trigger happy madness. It's tough, gritty, cheesy, exciting, cool, tense, wild and smart throughout. A damn good heist film that has a twist seemingly every second and a surprise in every scene. Reindeer Games is good at playing games with your mind, it's guaranteed to decieve and mislead you all the way through. It's not one of Frankenheimer's best films, but the entertainment factor is still quite high, it's a blast of bullet-riddled insanity. Thrilling and sexy, suspenseful and sleek, slick and stylish, vivid and violent, dark and bloody and full of holiday cheer.
The cast is great, but the acting is a bit sub-par with exagerrated performances from Ben Affleck, Charlize Theron, and Gary Sinise. With supporting riles from Danny Trejo and Dennis Farina. Cheesy acting, but in a way, still pretty convincing.
