It's a competent drama that pushes above average thanks to Cheadle and Sandler's chemistry. Sandler pulls a career standout performance out of nowhere, and it leads to comparisons with another SNL alumni, Jim Carrey.
One day, a Sandler straight role will go big and end the tirade of low-brow comedies that even he seems bored of in favour of outstanding acting seen here and in Punch a Drunk Love.
