Review of Reign Over Me (2007) by Brandon W — 11 Jan 2015
Reign Over Me is Adam Sandler's first drama movie. Punch-Drunk Love may be a drama film, but it's an odd film that might as well be a dramedy. That's not to say that this film doesn't have funny moments, it does and most of the time, it comes from Don Cheadle and surprisingly Adam Sandler.
The acting is great, but what might surprise viewers, is how amazing Adam Sandler is as a drama actor. He doesn't use the accent in here like he does in his comedies, and really gives it his all that really makes you feel sorry for his character.
He's so good that I think he should've been at least nominated for an Oscar, I am dead serious. The characters are quite good, especially Adam Sandler's. The way Adam's character goes through with life, post 9-11, by just playing video games, is new to me, does it very effectively, smart, and it doesn't do it in a cheap way.
The story is really good, and it's really the chemistry between Don Cheadle and Adam Sandler that is the main highlight of this film. Reign Over Me proves that Adam Sandler is a terrific drama actor and that he should be in more films like this instead of comedy movies.
