Review of Reign of Fire (2002) by Ryan W — 19 Jan 2015
A post-apocalyptic film taking place in the 21st century where dragons have awoken from hibernation and retook the Earth starring Christian Bale, Matthew McConaughey, Izabella Scorupco, and Gerard Butler.
This is one of my favorite guilty pleasure movies I've seen. The plot is "interesting" with some potential to my taste, the acting is ridiculous, especially with Matthew McConaughey (viking beard, bald head, and fanatical attitude deemed ludicrous to any sane person included) The script is virtually forgettable, and the directing is nothing special, neither is the music nor the visuals, bearing the same ashy, dreary, post-apocalyptic world the audience has seen before. As an action movie, it is a movie not to be taken seriously at all, but somehow, I enjoy this film for sheer entertainment value (It must be either the concept of dragons ruling the world or the over-the-top, viking-bearded Matthew McConaughey).
