Review of Regular Lovers (2005) by Nicholas F — 18 Jun 2008
Comparable to the work of some of my favorite directors, the style here weighs out more than the storytelling. This is definitely a visual work of genius, but for a three hour picture, it might have accomplished more if some scenes were diluted.
Classified as art-house, its shot entirely in black and white and is convincingly retro for '05. When the characters are failed by the zeitgeist there is an abrupt transition in the content of the film, which didn't deter me from liking the film, it just made me more interested in the characters.
I'm used to tedious films that progress like leisurely novels, but I would only recommend this to fans of French cinema of the 60's.
