Review of Regression (2015) by Matt L — 13 Oct 2015
A rather deep and thought provoking film, which really questions whether psychological therapies really do work in the way psychologists intend them to, and whether a victim of a sex crime, should always be considered an innocent party.
Regression starts off following an investigation into a child molestation accusation made by a girl about her father. With the use of psychology to try and get the information they need, Bruce Kenner and the professor find themselves being sucked deeper and deeper into a much larger investigation involving more suspects and satanic rituals.
Let's be clear, this is not a brilliant movie in terms of character development or acting quality. It was shot on a low budget and it shows. Where this movie makes up for it is with it's story, it's unpredictability and the twists. It begins tricking the audience into thinking it's a bog standard whodunit. It then develops into a mild horror with a couple of jumpy moments before returning to it's unpredictable ending.
I went to see this film knowing nothing about it and expecting it to be some bland, jumpy horror judging by the movie posters. It wasn't and I throughly enjoyed it. If you want to be tricked rather than just treated by a movie, give this a go.
