Review of Reform School Girls (1986) by Justin A — 09 Mar 2013
Very entertaining, self-aware movie. It doesn't try to be smart and it doesn't delve too deep into smut. It walks a fine line and is a great 80s cult movie. Of course there is a lot of nudity and a lot of girls running around in their underwear, but it doesn't get overly perverse like a lot of women in prison movies do.
A lot of the abusive sexuality that you would usually see in a women in prison movie is actually done mostly off camera, so it's a relatively tame movie. That's not to say that it's bad, I actually like that I don't have to look over my shoulder to make sure someone doesn't see me watching a certain movie.
That's why I enjoy this movie a lot. It's highly entertaining while not making the viewer feel dirty for watching it. If you love campy, cheesy, cult movies you have to see this. The soundtrack is awesome, the acting is just fine and appropriately over-the-top, and Wendy O Williams is like twice the age of all the girls and is harassing them in every scene.
It's amazing. A very fun movie.
