Review of Reflections in a Golden Eye (1967) by Willie J — 30 Oct 2013
Although there is plenty of camp and the story plays out like a Tennessee Williams southern soap, it's in fact not. Beautifully shot by an American master, John Huston, and developed in a unique yellow tint that gives the film a sense of surrealistic, dream-like quality, it offers some great performances (whether you think they are over the top or not) by Elizabeth Taylor, Marlon Brando, and Robert Forster.
It definitely contains some bizarre and controversial subject matter, and leaves you wondering what it could have been if it wasn't for Hollywood censors of that time.
