Review of Reds (1981) by Elliot G — 12 May 2008
Amazing film. Blew me away both times. A massive canvas. There's a lot to say about it, from the performances to the relentless direction to the great sweeping emotion to the talking heads and that beautiful photography.
Definitely worth the time, but only if you don't let Beatty's unabashed socialist politics get under your skin. Movies like this don't get made anymore, I don't think, at least not with this vision and perspective.
I love Nicholson as Eugene O'Neill.
