Review of Redemption (2014) by Jeff B — 03 Nov 2015
Not without its problems, one being just another dose of standard Stataham; nevertheless, Redemption has its moments. Sure, Statham's character reeks havoc on the underbelly of society per usual, but there's a twist here in his relationship with Cristina.
She's attempting to rid her demons through abstinence while Joey rids his via the bottle, an interesting juxtaposition as well as not-hard-to-believe connection between two people suffering at the hands of slow death by guilt.
It is this showcase, this relationship that gives Redemption its potential, even though it does break down in the end back to the ordinary. There's light here but not quite enough to redeem this film to the realm of outstanding.
