Review of Redbelt (2008) by Joe B — 02 Sep 2008
What starts out as an intriguing character study ends up as a plodding Karate Kid like film. I'd say a large part of the movie is typical Mamet, sophisticated dialogue spoken by easy to believe actors. In true Mamet style, no one really is who they say they are. There are a few snappy scenes and then it just...falls flat.
It's worth it for the performances but ultimately not worth it for the payoff.
