Review of Redbelt (2008) by Todd W — 05 Sep 2008
One of Mamet's less annoying movies. The characters still talk in redundancy and one wonders if this isn't his attempt at Raging Bull or a genuine action movie. Regardless, the intrigue is interesting and the plot did keep me on my toes.
A charm of the film is the way that Mamet creates a Hollywood hero with a fairly sardonic style. If this were any other director, the conclusion would be laughable and fodder for late night Spike TV.
Not genius filmmaking, but a solid entry and a pleasantly less dialogue driven and self-involved film from Mr. Mamet.
