Review of Redbelt (2008) by German R — 24 Nov 2008
I'm into martial arts, so my review is biased of course, having said that, it is a good movie, Jiu-Jitsu is the featured martial art, and it has some of the biggest names on it (Machado, Inosanto).
Ejiofor is really good in his acting, but the movie is more about the purpose, the teacher-student relationship and the honor code around martial arts, particulary japanese. Most martial arts have become sports or sportish, this is a good remainder for practitioners of what martial arts are about.
Some people will say that one of the characters' specific reaction is way out of this world, but the bushido code was much more strict than that, and prevailed for more than a thousand years.
