Review of Redbelt (2008) by Marvin H — 03 Dec 2008
Sometimes Ejiofor's character, Terry, sees the evils of the world a little too black and white for me to be able sympathize with him, but Mamet does a terrific job making his central character vulnerable without having to say much.
There is an elegant understanding that Terry's ideals make him easily manipulated by immoral people, a credit to both Ejiofor and Mamet's subtlety. Ejiofor and Mortimer's scenes together are especially moving, though I would have liked to see a little more of Terry's relationship with his wife.
She becomes somewhat villianized and I think seeing the events from her perspective would have given the movie a lot more dimension.
