Review of Redbelt (2008) by Joel M — 06 Mar 2009
Excellent comeback from veteran screenwriter David Mamet who directs this tale of a martial-arts instructor who must finally use his craft outside the classroom to win in life. Great all-star cast and wonderful script that is far superior to Stallone's 'Rocky' films in every way.
An interesting directorial effort that examines the central character's many relationships and loyalty. The underlying themes are quite subtle and not as obvious. A great film with significant character development and a host of conflicts and challenges.
A satisfying blend of action, drama, tragedy and romance. More than just an old-fashioned fight-movie and certainly not cheesy at all. It was a real pleasure to watch this in BluRay.
