Review of Redbelt (2008) by Andrew B — 13 Sep 2009
A watchable martial arts movie about the ancient discipline of Jujitsu in contrast to the current mainstream culture of MMA. Chiwetel Ejiofor a relative unknown delivered a very good performance and to me made his character look like a genuine JuJitsu blackbelt. The rest of the acting and the dialogue however fell far behind. Especially from woman whose husband just committed suicide, seeming indifferent to her husbands recent death and was solely worried about the bills she has been stuck with.
There were also a lot of nonsensical parts in this film that were just random or were just for the purpose of moving the story and characters around. The ending was a perfect example of this. The antagonists Tim Allen and Joe Mantegna didn't make a lot of sense either they screwed over Mike Terry for no reason other than the fact that they were 'evil'. But this is an enjoyable movie with its faults not crippling the film.
