Review of Redbelt (2008) by Olli H — 24 Mar 2011
"Redbelt" is about Jiu-jitsu master & teacher Mike Terry (Chiwetel Ejiofor), whose luck seems to turn when he saves a film star Chet Frank's (Tim Allen) life in a bar fight. Chet starts to give Mike some new career opportunities but Mike is quickly being affected by the levels of corruption behind the scenes and being a man who belives in honor & justice, things quickly turn around.
Being directed & written by David Mamet, whose previous movies include "The Untouchables", "Glengarry Glen Ross" & "Wag The Dog", it is no surprise that the screenplay is actually very good. For an marshal arts movie that actually has only one or two fight scenes, it is one of the best of it's kind. The acting is top notch as well, mainly because it's starring actors that are usually seen in supporting acting roles. Chiwetel Ejiofor is particularly good.
So in the end, "Redbelt" offers an excellent insight to world of marshal arts with powerful acting and a good story.
