Quite drunk.War films based on still being fought conflicts cannot really make a difference . During the Vietnam war there were a slew of AMerican Anti war films including De Palma's enjoyable GREETINGS but the ones that are remembered and make you truly think are the ones made after the war.
This is because they can avoid being patronising. The same with The Battle Of ALgiers, made after the fact but damned important nontheless. Here characters spout cliched hollywood dialogue, the villains of the piece are the blue collars, the overweight, the dumb.
It is a noble attempt from a director as into technique as his "mentor" Hitchcock but as a movie made about a conflict that is not yet over it fails to make an impact. A curious piece in the De Palma cannon of many hits and many misses.
