Review of Redacted (2007) by Nick D — 22 Mar 2008
Brian De Palma has been around the block a few times. Perhaps he's still a well-respected director, despite everything. So I don't know why I feel the need to express patronising "B+ for effort" sentiment about this film.
Anyway, for the first 45 minutes or so, its depiction of grunt life, and the way people behind and in front of a camcorder, really impressed me.
The way the crime was set up and reacted to by the characters seemed markedly less plausible. The agonising college kids didn't feel right. And ultimately, it didn't all come together in any interesting way.
But yeah ... good try.
