Review of Redacted (2007) by Wayman I — 04 May 2008
The most brutal and uncompromising war film I've ever seen. And I hated it. It offended me in every way imaginable. This may come as a shock to those of you who are aware of my incredibly liberal, pacifist attitude and my intense disaproval of the war in Iraq.
But this movie was awful. The dialogue, the acting, even the direction of the cobbled together bits and pieces of "found" footage were all horribly sub standard. It's a real scuzzfest of a movie with no redeamable outcome.
Everything is horrible. There is not truth or beauty revealed about the world as a whole, it's just a disturbing mess covered with the sleazy varnish of exploitation. It frankly made me sick to watch and even though, yes, I believe stories such as these should be told, does it have to be in such a D-grade, childlike manner? Subtlety is thrown ourt the window in exchange for undirected rage which masquerades as a meditation on violence.
Don't see this. You'll end up depressed and sick to your stomach.
