Review of Red Tails (2012) by Stephen M — 28 May 2012
The trailer got me very excited and being a history buff, I was happy to hear that the Tuskegee Airman story was finally hitting the big screen in the modern era. However, when the movie was over, I felt like the film was a huge let down. The dialogue was terrible, the acting was hit and miss, the romantic subplot was completely unnecessary and did not fit with the film, the characters were not very developed, and (this might be nitpicking) the titles at the beginning and end of the film looked sloppy. The best part of the movie was the well-done CGI dogfights which were exciting and entertaining.
I honestly believe that the Tuskegee Airman deserve a much, MUCH better film than this. The film is too flawed by cliches and a bad script to make me recommend it. However, If you have some time to kill and are curious, feel free to check it out for yourself. Just lower your expectations before hitting play.
