Review of Red Tails (2012) by Cody M — 17 Sep 2013
Entertaining if light weight war movie about the Tuskegee Airmen of WW2, centring around the relationship between the squad's straight-laced commander Easy (Nate Parker) and his reckless best pilot Lightning (David Oyelowo) as they are picked to fly protection for bomber squads.
Exciting aerial action and a cast of charismatic young actors make this a painless affair, and there are some nice touches (like when a shot-down pilot discovers his colour an asset in the concentration camp is a particularly nice touch), but it could have been something more.
Producer George Lucas has spent years and millions of his own money in getting this story to the screen, though perhaps the screenplay could have used another pass.
