Review of Red State (2011) by Mark E — 03 Dec 2011
Disappointed this got such a low review... also disappointed that audiences are mainly focusing on the religious fanaticism of the antagonists... this is not torture porn... this is not the devil's rejects.
.. this is kevin smith putting out a non-comedic film about the state of America itself, and how it's people have basically voted for the government to imprison whoever they want, whenever they want, for whatever reason as long as they can justify it as domestic terrorism.
.. and they can, because the voters gave them that power. that's what this movie is about... sure, America is the land of the free where you can say whatever you want, preach whatever ideals you believe in, and own as many guns as you want.
.. but the ATF can basically execute you for it if they want... but all that seriousness, aside... Kevin Pollack's facial expression is just as priceless as his final frame in the Usual Suspects...
