Review of Red State (2011) by Aaron D — 05 Apr 2012
A provocative but silly and bleary narrative with overwritten scenes that completely ruin the flow of the film. The statements made are interesting but weakly told and give the impression that Smith didn't exactly know what film he was trying to make and its hard to understand why he'd even try to throw the spin on it when the core subject matter is interesting enough in and of itself.
Ultimately the film is a disappointment because it never reaches the dramatic peaks or envelope pushing limits suggested and expected.
