Review of Red State (2011) by Neil T — 28 Jun 2012
A definite departure from his other films. But while the visual and editing styles have improved over his previous films, the story and dialogue (which is normally Smith's strong point) is the weakness.
Two long scenes of exposition, self-indulgent monologues, unrealistic performances...the film just becomes a bit of a mess. There are some decent moments within, but wish the story elements hand't been sacrificed for the upgrade in visual style.
I just left feeling "meh".
