Review of Red State (2011) by Alexander Z — 12 Jul 2012
There's a lot here to like, but there's also a lot to dislike. Michael Parks does one of the greatest acting jobs I've ever seen in a film, but all the rest, including John Goodman, seem not to be that into it.
Or maybe Parks is so good that it makes the rest look worse. Either way, the plot didn't exactly congeal and this horror movie is plagued by the stupid character syndrome, which really lowers the entertainment value.
Honestly, I could have just watched 90 minutes of Michael Parks talking in a creepy fanatical voice, because I was riveted to the screen whenever he was speaking. Worth watching for him alone, easily.
