Review of Red State (2011) by Lovro H — 06 Jan 2015
I expected much less of this movie, even though it was a Kevin Smith movie. But, this was quite honestly, a pretty good movie. First of all, Michael Parks is brilliant. His acting in this movie was amazing.
I loved his acting, he creeps you out in every scene. Also, John Goodman is in this movie. He is also good, but Parks steals the show. That said, the story of the movie is very weird, religious and political.
It starts off as your average slasher movie, but ends being a political and religious thriller. I was really suprised by the church group in the movie, if you can even call it a church. They were some maniacal freaks, and I hope that I don't meet someone like that anytime soon.
Ending of the movie is quite strange, actually. First you'd think it's supernatural, but then it all gets explained a few minutes later. Characters were okay, didn't really care for a lot of them, none were that much likeable.
All in all, it's a decent thriller and you shouldn't have great expectations of it, otherwise you're gonna be dissapointed. But, if you go in with no expectations, you're going to have a good time!
