Review of Red State (2011) by Benny B — 20 Oct 2013
After the awful 'Cop Out', Kevin Smith hit back with a surprisingly satirical exploitation film, loosely based on the Westboro Baptist Church. But its tonally anarchic - Smith can't quite sustain the central idea - and wraps it up too quickly.
He blatantly borrows styling from the Coen's and Tarantino/Rodriguez. That said, it's far more interesting than gimmicky, pastiche exploitation, and is one of Smith's better films in quite some time.
