Review of Red Sparrow (2018) by Liam B — 13 Jun 2018
Alright already. i'm sick of the "no chemistry" comments. They are spies, they both know they are spies. they know right away that they are both spies. as spies they know exactly what each is expected to get from the other. this, right here, is going to prevent our two protagonists from getting that deeply involved.
There is a certain amount of trust they have to have in each other, but they cannot be naive either. and this is the real hingepin to the story. our Nate is trying to "turn" dominika and dominika is trying to get nate to tell her secrets. they both know this is their mission for each other.
In the end dominika gets what she needs, not wants, and nate has a contact in russia that he can count on.
The movie is driven by plot and dialog, not action and sex. the later two have been fare for decades. the former two not nearly often enough.
It makes the movie interesting, even if "spy movies" have been "done to death.".
