Review of Red Sparrow (2018) by Eric B — 03 Mar 2018
I enjoyed the movie. Jennifer Lawrence is very good at playing Dominika, the ballerina turned sparrow but her accent could have used some work. She is all about power and sex and more power and uses it to her advantage to get what she really wants. Joel Edgerton does a fine job of playing CIA agent Nate Nash. The only other performance worth noting was Mary Louise-Parker who played a US Senator's Chief of Staff and was very compelling.
I really didn't know whose side Dominika was going to be on until the end and that is probably why I liked it, it kept me guessing. I wasn't a big fan of the torture scenes (not my thing), but it added to the suspense so it worked. There was one scene in particular that had me quoting the classic line from Ferris Bueller's Day Off: "So that's how it is in their family." I think that the final act was well done, especially with the twist.
