Review of Red Sparrow (2018) by Tom F — 07 Mar 2018
One of the most graphically violent and sexual mainstream films that i've seen in some time, it's almost like an exploitation film minus some of the tongue-in-cheek touches that makes those films so fun.
Despite its over long run time the film does move along quite smoothly and would be nothing without the formidable talents of it's star performer. Has some mild (and at times not so mild) misogynistic tones that it tries to reconcile by having the slighted character enact mental and physical revenge against the offender, but the craft of the script and lack of humor doesn't take it quite far enough to rise above the underlying anger that dwells here.
