Review of Red Sparrow (2018) by Kevin T — 27 Mar 2018
This movie would be a reasonably good film if it weren't for the BLATANT PROPAGANDA against Russia. There is far too much nudity, more than necessary, & not even in a sexy way. Strangely as a red blooded male that likes women, I kinda found myself being repulsed, but maybe I should be repulsed by it morally, maybe I'm just growing up.
Not that Jennifer Lawrence isn't attractive. Acting is good, & the whole story of how complex it is to survive as an agent is intriguing & interesting, but as someone who is always aware of the hidden messages in the News & advertising of products in movies, I found myself annoyed the whole movie, by the blatant Anti-Russian message in this movie.
It probably won't be noticed by most people who are not looking for it. It can't be coincidence that this movie is released at the same time that Russia is becoming colder towards the UK, the USA & Europe.
It can't be coincidence that the main bad guy in the movie looks almost exactly the same as a young Vladimir PUTIN! It can't be coincidence that all the way through the movie, the Russians force their spies into prostitution, with fear of death, & fear for their families & torturing their own people, but the Americans are magically all wonderful & nice & helpful & friendly.
And the Americans of course never torture anyone do they? #Guantanamo. This Russian Red Sparrow is forced into prostitution, threatened with death every five minutes, people she know are killed, & the Russians wonder why she went over to the American side? Realistic? No.
Either both sides do this or neither side does it. Neither side is better than the other. As I said, its blatant Propaganda against Russia. You can enjoy this movie, but try to come out of the movie having only enjoyed the movie, & not being brainwashed into hating Russia a bit more (like they want you to).
