So let's look at Red Sparrow for what it really is, a pretty nifty execution or rearrangement of something that had been done before but this one backs its claims, the story is never dull and keeps a steady pace of thrill and action which is the primary aim of this genre, there's nothing we haven't seen before but with a talented cast such as this one, Red Sparrow escapes the mold and offers a much needed fresh take on this burnt genre, this doesn't mean it's better than its predecessors, but it means it's different, what this film lacks even in terms of its recent genre state is a good plotted story, the story is alright and it sticks but it's not fancy nor surprising, even though I really liked the twist toward the end.

The glue that keeps this film from crumbling down is without any doubt, Jen Lawrance, she through her remarkable rendition of her character help cover the cracks of this film, her character is gripping, charming and elegant, Lawrance through the years really perfected her craft and it's obvious to see in this film as she carries an entire story alongside her respected cast.

Having said all that, Red Sparrow is far from being a bad movie but falls victim of its own genre, I'd even take a chance and say that Red Sparrow is very good.
