Review of Red Sparrow (2018) by Gregory M — 27 Apr 2018
"Red Sparrow" is a movie that works. It got me hooked from the start. The thing is though that its plot can be a challenge for the watcher as it skips all over the place and may confuse the casual audience.
It's runtime is quite long for its own good though. Somewhere in the second act it was quite dragging but in the end it delivered. I am not amazed by the movie, nor am I gonna think about it much, but what "Red Sparrow" does, it does so very well.
It offers a gaze into politics and corrupted governments, and it does so really satisfactory. Whilst watching this I kept thinking to myself "I'm so glad Jennifer Lawrence is an actress of my generation, she has so much to offer in acting".
Jennifer Lawrence shines in this. I'm glad I watched "Red Sparrow", this cold political, espionage game of Francis Lawrence, whom I loved with his "Catching Fire" and am now intrigued in following his future projects.
