Review of Red Sorghum (1988) by Morten Ø — 06 Nov 2010
What I loved most about this movie was its cinematography and its very significant colors. The dry and brownish colors versus the rich and strong colours of the red wine, the characters clothes and the fields is powerful to watch.
Regarding the plot and themes of this movie I'm a bit confused. I suppose the movie is an allegory of the communist China or Cultural Revolution, but my knowledge in this particularly area is just simply a bit to vague. The story of the movie, and particularly the love story, is just not as strong as one could have hoped. Maybe it's because of Cultural differences between east and west, but I just don't get it really.
However, the movie was beautiful and definitely a movie I will think back upon in a week or two.
