Review of Red Road (2006) by Mark C — 07 Sep 2007
The debts to Von Trier at his most gut wrenching are clear from the start, but that doesn't detract from what has to be one of the strongest debuts of the year. It helps that I'm unfamiliar with many Scottish actors, so, for the time being, they are their characters.
The atmosphere and moral ambiguity are what really make it. And, in response to another reviewer, how is the sex scene unnecessary? It's crux of her plan. I can't imagine the film without it.
