Review of Red River (2011) by Robbie H — 23 Sep 2017
A near perfect Western..perhaps even the best Western ever made....watched it for the 2nd time recently and had to update my review...its good..very good...first off the score for this film is brilliant and pure cowboy western plains music.
.loved it...also a wide array of interesting characters in the film...Wayne gives one of his best performances ever...loved it..tough,intense..great lines..just the way John Wayne should be...Monty Clift was terrific as well.
...as was many other actors in small roles and the great supporting actor Walter Brennan was hilarious in his small but pivotal role....the only weak link was Joanna Dru as the love interest...she was awful and slowed down the film way too much.
..totally uninteresting character..just awful....up until she shows up ,"red river" is a testosterone fest of manly men toughing it up on the plains heading to Missouri...then she screws it up a little bit.
.also she ruins the ending ... other than that the film is perfect..its fast paced..doesnt drag a bit...also the cinematography is gorgeous...a must see for a wayne fan or western fan.
