Review of Red River (2009) by Luke B — 18 Jun 2008
This is possibly (likely, probably, certainly) my favorite western. Hawks' direction is masterfully relaxed as always, letting the talent of the actors shine through. John Wayne delivers his finest performance this side of The Searchers as a man so desperate and obsessed with succeeding that he is willing to sacrifice the lives of his friends and family in the process.
Robert Ireland also has a terrific role here as Montgomery Clift's brash rival.
