The reason why Red river is considered a masterpiece,influential in the western genre and entertaining its thanks to its great script,outstanding cinematography,editing,make-up (specially John wayne's characterization as an elder westerner), and great performances but first of all because of its director, howard hawks.
Probably John wayne's best performance.
