Review of Red River (1948) by Reggie W — 03 Jan 2015
Simply put, one of the greatest westerns ever made. The two hour, 25 â?? minute length would normally put several people off from seeing this movie, but this movie moves with every second. John Wayne is incredible in this movie â?? even though it's not his typical role.
Wayne plays a boss, yes, but that's where the similarities with his later roles end. Wayne's character is out of control, and pays the price for it midway through the movie. Montgomery Clift is excellent as his main support, and the character actors who became so famous later on in their careers for roles just like they played here â?? namely guys like Noah Beery â?? are incredible in filling in the holes that Wayne and Clift leave.
