Review of Red Riding Hood (2011) by Sidney C — 10 Oct 2011
Okay, this one was better than I expected, quite much actually. Is it good? Hell no. It's utterly predictable - though I admit that I didn't figure out, who the werewolf actually was before (s)he was revealed, but that's more due to me not really caring enough to think about the situation carefully.
Granted, some of the actors were actually quite good - Gary Oldman, I'm looking at you - the music was actually quite good, the pacing and cinematography were not that bad and at least the art director for this film knew what he was doing - the visual style of the film is very pleasing.
But still, it's overly clichéd, not daring to venture outside of its source material in the least. The actions is subpar and in the end there's just nothing significant in this film. It's just a pretty dark fantasy film with a weak overall story.
If dark fantasy is your thing, you might want to give this a watch. Otherwise, keep away.
