Review of Red Riding Hood (2011) by Dominic F — 24 Oct 2011
It was much better than I thought it was going to be. Red manages to be sexy and scary while gradually building dread and paranoia. It had wonderful set design, and excellent lighting. The Big Bad Wolf looked superior to what recent films have come up with, with much of its CGI masked by its swift movement and low lighting.
There was one big drawback though. The leading man was a terrible actor. When he wanted to look tormented and dark, he had what my wife called: the constipation face. All in all, even his lackluster performance didn't bring the production down.
A good take on a classic fairy tale (with some others tossed in to boot). If you are a fan of the genre it's definitely worth a rental.
