Review of Red Riding Hood (2011) by Mike D — 29 Jan 2012
'Red Riding Hood' is a horrible attempt to capitalize on the maxed out 'Twilight' craze that once afflicted the film industry. Director Catherine Hardwicke, who actually helmed the first installment of the aforementioned series, does a poor job of controlling all aspects of 'Hood.
' The acting is extremely wooden, with Amanda Seyfried appearing dead behind the eyes and the leading guys who are dueling for her hand in marriage (Shiloh Fernandez and Max Irons) showcase amateur acting abilities at best.
So many things about 'Hood' feel stolen from previous films, and the CGI of the wolf - who is, after all, the main antagonist here - is just plain bad. Additionally, Gary Oldman's annoying portrayal of the outsider Solomon does nothing to boost the value of 'Hood.
' And let not the glaringly out of place soundtrack go unnoticed. In short, 'Red Riding Hood' is an embarrassing showing that is not even worth being compared with the film it so obviously tried to copy.
