Review of Red Riding Hood (2011) by Shayne J — 31 Mar 2013
This movie didn't know what kind of movie it was, but I doubt it was trying that hard. On the one hand, there's a mystery: who is the wolf? But the plot is filled with misdirects and "clues" that are more useless than clever.
There are several highly telegraphed suspects, even one it can't possibly be, but when we find out who the wolf is, it seems somewhat out of nowhere. On the other hand, we have a Twihard-serving romantic triangle and some of the misdirects serve only to loosely connect this plot to the rest of the movie in a way that ultimately proves unsatisfying.
The most entertaining moments were when Gary Oldman was chewing scenery like like he was starving to death. I also enjoyed seeing Billy Burke, Michael Shanks, and Michael Hogan in the same movie, even if none of them had a whole lot to do.
